Because being a Mum is hard enough!

Mums Matter is a perinatal mental health service designed and developed by mums for mums. The service aims to improve the mental health and wellbeing of new mums by empowering them with knowledge and understanding of perinatal mental health and expanding social networks.

Mums Matter is a facilitated peer support group made up of 6 sessions, focusing on the following: 

  • Dispelling myths around motherhood.
  • Identifying tools to nurture yourself, to support your wellbeing.
  • Identify and make positive changes to support your wellbeing and have a positive impact on your recovery.
  • Be able to use calming exercises and relaxation techniques.
  • Challenge your thought process with a range of CBT techniques.
  • Connect with others that get it.

The overall aims over the service are:

  • Raise awareness and understanding of perinatal mental health problems and symptoms among mothers and their support network
  • Tackling common myths and assumptions around motherhood and parenting
  • Providing support that addresses the wellbeing of mothers so they are better able to look after themselves and their baby

Who is this course for?

Any mums in the Ystradgynlais or surrounding areas, with young children who are struggling with anxiety, mum guilt, low mood, negative thoughts, loneliness or post natal depression. We work with people with mild to moderate mental health issues but do not work with anyone with severe mental health issues.
